Bago Floods (III)



These satellite pictures of 1990, 2000 and 2005 shows land use changes and degradation of forest cover clearly. What need to do? A sustainable development program, and good governance? How to implement, not by words, but by deeds.

This is an old problem gradually worsened by forest degradation on the Bago Yoma, and also land use changes. See the white mark on the tele post to image the level of floods.

During Rainy Season of 2007 I traveled from Nay Pyi Taw to Yangon by train, and had to spent the night at ShweHlay Chaung for flash flood. Left photo show the flood plain at the dry season (January 2008)
